St. Petersburg, 17 June 2010 – President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gorge Ivanov, and Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Stavreski, met “GAZPROM” CEO, Alexey Miller.

 

During the meeting, they voiced their mutual contentment of the coming signing of the Clearing Debt Agreement, which will boost cooperation between Macedonia and Russia in the energy sector. Thus, conditions are created for “Gazprom” to participate in the construction of gas transmission network in the Republic of Macedonia, both parties expressing full readiness to cooperate.

 

During the meeting, Macedonian inclusion in the important international transit corridor “South Stream” was also discussed, with a possibility to build a branch passing through the territory of Macedonia.

 

Partnership between the Russian energy giant and the Republic of Macedonia in construction of gas power plants was also tackled at the meeting.

 

Arrangement of expert teams of “Gazprom” and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia to immediately start harmonizing technical issues speaks in favour of the readiness of both parties to realize the above-mentioned projects.
