1st July, 2025 - Today, Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, addressed the Roundtable titled “Leveraging Private Business and Finance“, held as part of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), taking place in Seville under the auspices of the United Nations.
Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska shared the country’s success story for promoting green transition through blended finance and strategic partnerships.
She presented the national innovation - the Green Finance Facility, which Macedonia has introduced as an instrument to support SMEs and underserved households to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
“The Green Finance Facility is more than a financial tool. It is a catalyst for transformation that brings about real, inclusive and visible changes in the communities”, Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska pointed out.
As indicated at the Conference, the blended finance model - by combining public and private capital, technical assistance and performance-based incentives - reduces financial uncertainty and enables broader access to climate-smart and socially-responsible investments.
Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska also shared the substantial results achieved so far.
“57 SME projects have been supported, mobilizing over US$ 15.5 million in investment, which are to deliver annual energy savings of 17,828 GJ and avoided emissions of nearly 4,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent. 58 underserved households have received support in the total amount of US$ 370,693, delivering annual energy savings of 621 MWh and avoided emissions of 192 tons of CO₂ equivalent. Moreover, these investments have also led to reductions in fine particle pollution (PM2.5 and PM10) contributing to cleaner air and healthier communities”, the Minister said.
During her address, she underlined that the success of the Green Finance Facility is built on the partnerships with the UN (United Nations Joint SDG Fund), UNDP, IOM, UNECE, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the network of local banks and leasing companies.
“Our vision for green transition is just and equitable and inclusive, focusing on the underserved groups. No one is left behind in green transition”, the Minister emphasized.
“Together, we can mobilize the capital, innovation and solidarity needed to accelerate the green transition”, the Minister said.
At the close, Dimitrieska-Kochoska reaffirmed Macedonia’s strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement, underlining that global cooperation is the key to building a greener, fairer and more resilient world.
