23rd September 2026, New York - Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, participated at the working session “Powering Growth in the New Economy”, held within the World Economic Forum's Sustainable Development Impact Meetings 2026, taking place in New York.
The session, which brought together senior government officials, representatives of international institutions and the business community, explored the challenges and opportunities presented by the new economy, with a particular focus on ensuring energy security, energy affordability and sustainability as key drivers of long-term economic growth and competitiveness.
The discussion focused on various approaches to the energy transition and the manner in which governments and businesses can strike a balance between economic growth and sustainability, as well as on the role new technologies, investments and partnerships play in economic transformation.
In that context, the importance of securing adequate financing and channeling investments into capital projects that enhance energy security and sustainability, was highlighted, with such investments simultaneously supporting stable economic growth and boosting the competitiveness.
“Economies need to be directed toward long-term growth, founded exclusively on productivity. Furthermore, the discussion highlighted the need for each economy to diversify further in order to generate greater value added. It was also emphasized that the creation of as many high-productivity jobs as possible is essential and, last but certainly not least, that greater energy independence, enhanced sustainability and a more stable energy supply remain key priorities,” Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska highlighted.
The discussions highlighted that the new global economic conditions call for a broader approach to policies in support of economic growth, which, alongside productivity, should also focus on diversifying economic activity, creating high-productivity, high-quality jobs, enhancing energy security and boosting long-term competitiveness.
These issues are of particular importance for Macedonia in its efforts to accelerate economic growth and create conditions for boosted competitiveness of the domestic economy. In this regard, supporting investments and economic transformation, while creating conditions for a secure and sustainable energy supply, is crucial for both citizens and the competitiveness of businesses.
Participation in such international forums provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices, while also positioning Macedonia within the global dialogue on policies that will shape economic growth over the next decade.
