Dimitrieska-Kochoska at Istanbul Economic Summit 2025: Global changes are not seen as threat, but rather an opportunity for development

11th December 2025, Istanbul – Macedonia is entering into a new phase of economic transformation, with a clear focus on investments, digitalization and fiscal stability, Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, conveyed in her introductory address at the inauguration of the Istanbul Economic Summit 2025, being held on 11th and 12th December under the theme “New Balances and Global Cooperation”.

The event gathered policymakers, international financial institutions, academics, and business leaders from the region and Europe to discuss key issues related to global economic changes, essential reforms, and building new partnerships in an increasingly dynamic and challenging world.

In her address, the Minister emphasized that modern economies are under significant pressure, ranging from geopolitical risks to energy and technological shocks, making it necessary for countries to actively work on building adaptive and resilient systems.

“The world is changing. Geopolitical risks, energy challenges and economic shocks have created a new global architecture. Today, global economic and political relations are evolving at an unprecedented pace”, Dimitrieska-Kochoska said, underscoring that countries, in particular developing countries must take proactive steps.

She stressed that Macedonia is already developing an economy grounded on fiscal discipline, predictability, and modernization, ensuring better conditions for both the private sector and the investors.

As regards the ongoing public finance reforms, priority is given to strengthening budget sustainability, coupled by increased funding for productive investments, greater transparency and efficiency in public spending.

Minister emphasized human capital development and digitalization as the foundation of the new economy. Government is investing in digital public services, improving financial infrastructure, and integrating domestic companies into international markets, while also encouraging young people to stay and build their careers at home.

“The new global cooperation brings not only challenges – but also opens the door to new opportunities. Macedonia is ready to be part of these processes – through new investments, reforms, partnerships and clear vision for the future”, Minister said, emphasizing that the country opts to be an active contributor in shaping economic solutions rather than a passive observer.

Istanbul Economic Summit 2025 focuses on economic policies aimed at sustainable growth, strengthened economic cooperation among countries, as well as building new partnerships.
Topics to be addressed during the Summit include global economy, sustainable development and green economy, energy and finance, digital transformation, as well as the role of education in attracting foreign investments.

Participation of Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska at the Summit serves as a key opportunity to advance economic diplomacy relations and strengthen Macedonia’s position within regional processes.
