11th November 2025, Skopje – On Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Finance, Nikolche Jankulovski participated at TAIEX Workshop dedicated to defining Public Interest Entities and improving audit quality, where he stressed the commitment to institutional strengthening and alignment with EU Standards.
“Audit and public oversight are the cornerstone of a stable economic system, fostering confidence among the public administration, the private sector, as well as the citizens.” A professional and independent audit is essential to having stable public finances, transparency, and credible institutions, in place,” Jankulovski emphasized.
He added that the Government’s 2024–2028 Program places audit at the core of public sector reforms, aiming to build an efficient and accountable public sector, put a strong financial management system in place, and strengthen institutional resilience to corruption and political interference.
He placed special emphasis on the importance of precisely defining Public Interest Entities (PIEs) as a key step in building a credible audit system, in line with the EU Directive 2014/56/EU and the Regulation (EU) 537/2014.
Jankulovski expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the European Commission and TAIEX Instrument, as well as the experts from the Hellenic Accounting and Auditing Standards Oversight Board – Greece, for sharing their expertise in audit oversight and quality control.
“By fostering international cooperation, sharing experience, and applying professional standards, the domestic audit and public oversight system can be enhanced, while also strengthening fiscal accountability, and bringing our country closer to EU Standards as regards transparency and stability,” Deputy Minister added.
Workshop’s conclusions are expected to provide for precise guidance for finalizing the new Audit Law, putting in place mechanisms in support of quality control and institutional accountability, with the ultimate goal of reinforcing confidence in the audit system, while also serving as a driving force for growth.
