15th October 2025, Washington DC - While attending the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, met with officials from the Office of Technical Assistance – OTA, U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The meeting focused on reviewing the successful cooperation achieved to date and identifying future priorities in the field of public finance management, budgeting, taxation, public debt and the financial system. As highlighted during the meeting, cooperation with the U.S. Department of the Treasury remains a key component in the ongoing modernization of North Macedonia’s public finance management system.
Recent projects have provided expert support across multiple areas — from improving budget planning and establishing program-based budgeting to strengthening fiscal accountability and enhancing transparency in the use of public funds.
As regards tax and customs policy, discussions focused on continuing the technical support for modernization of the Public Revenue Office, the Financial Intelligence Office and the Customs Administration,
highlighting the importance of improving risk management, implementing advanced systems for analysis and control, as well as strengthening integrity and anti-corruption measures.
Particular attention was also given to the ongoing cooperation in the field of public debt management, aimed at further developing the domestic capital market and expanding the investor base.
Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska underscored that the strategic partnership with the U.S. Department of the Treasury provides a significant impetus for advancing public finance management and enhancing institutional capacities in the country.
“The technical support provided by the U.S. Department of the Treasury is crucial to our efforts to build a modern, transparent and sustainable public finance management system. This partnership allows us to introduce high standards in fiscal policy, enhance efficiency in budget planning and execution, and strengthen public and investor confidence in our institutions,” the Minister emphasized.
She further noted that the Ministry of Finance remains committed to implementing the reforms in the public finance management system, in close coordination with the international partners, with the aim of creating a stable and responsible fiscal framework that ensures long-term predictability and economic growth.
