9th October 2025, Skopje - For the purpose of strengthening domestic economy, supporting local companies, and creating new jobs, the Government has adopted modifications and amendments to the VAT Law, thus abolishing the VAT exemption for online shipments amounting to up to EUR 22. Legal amendments are pending parliamentary procedure, which implementation is anticipated to yield direct positive impacts on both the economy and the operations of domestic companies.
As per this measure, approximately up to Denar 4 million per month, reflecting the turnover generated through foreign online platforms, will be channeled to the national economy. These funds will contribute to development of local companies, boosted job creation, as well as higher wages paid to employees.
This constitutes a major step towards protecting and supporting the domestic economy, particular against a backdrop of growing globalization and digital commerce.
In addition, the amendments will provide for reducing the grey economy, considering that the system allowed for abuses thus far - more precisely, import of tax-exempt goods, which are subsequently sold on the domestic market.
As a result of this amendment, the Government clearly demonstrates its commitment to supporting domestic companies that create value added and help boost job creation.
