MoF: As of 1st July 2026, additional reduction and full alignment of customs tariffs with those applied in the EU, will take effect, covering 70 goods used as raw materials and intermediate goods in the domestic industry

28th May 2026, Skopje - Today, at the Government’s session, the proposal for amending the Law on Customs Tariff was adopted. These amendments provide for an additional reduction of customs tariffs on the respective goods, and their full alignment with the customs tariffs applied in the European Union. These amendments reflect the ongoing continuation of last year’s legislative amendments, which entered into force on 1st July 2025, as per which, the difference between the customs tariffs in our country and those applicable in the EU will be reduced by 50%. Reduction of customs tariffs covers raw materials, intermediate goods and components used in the domestic production capacities for manufacturing final goods, all to the end of boosting the export competitiveness of Macedonian industry. This legislative amendment reflects the Government’s commitments under its 2024–2028 Work Program, pertaining to gradual harmonization of customs tariffs with those applied in the European Union, tailored to the export and import needs of Macedonian economy. The amendments were prepared in consultation with the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia and reflect the further implementation of a customs policy aimed at supporting the domestic business community and boosting the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry. The Draft Law stipulates full alignment of certain customs tariffs with those applied in the European Union, thereby ensuring closer alignment with the EU customs tariffs, while also considering the rules of the World Trade Organization. The measure is set to provide direct support to the automotive, metal-processing industry and metallurgy industries, while also expected to boost exports, increase foreign currency inflows, scale up investments and expand employment. Reduction of the customs tariffs on these 70 goods will bring about significant long‑term effects on economic growth, industrial production, and the country’s export competitiveness.
