25th August 2026, Skopje – For the first time in the country, the Ministry of Finance will organise a national exam for obtaining a certificate of authorised internal auditor in the public sector.
This represents a significant step forward in advancing the public sector internal financial control system and forms part of the Ministry of Finance’s ongoing efforts to promote more accountable, transparent and lawful operations within public institutions.
By introducing the national exam, the Ministry of Finance is launching, for the first time, a national certification for internal auditors in the public sector. This initiative will provide a framework for their continuous professional development and contribute to strengthening the internal audit function across public institutions.
The exam and certification of internal auditors will directly contribute to strengthening the institutional capacities of internal audit units within public sector entities. At the same time, it is yet another concrete demonstration of the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms and ensuring lawful, transparent and responsible operations within public sector entities.
The introduction of the national exam is also significant in the context of the European Union integration process. It is a step towards full implementation of the European Union’s recommendations in this segment under Chapter 32 – Financial Control, while also contributing to the successful implementation of the next steps under the Reform Agenda in this field.
The exam study materials and questions have already been published on the Ministry of Finance’s website, being prepared with technical and expert assistance from the European Union in support of the Ministry of Finance’s Central Harmonisation Unit. The Ministry expresses its appreciation to the European Union for its assistance in supporting this important process.
In the period ahead, the Ministry of Finance will provide timely updates to the public on the next steps in the process of organizing and conducting the exam for obtaining the certificate of authorised internal auditor in the public sector.
