State Secretary Matlioska at EBRD Annual Meeting in Riga, bilateral meetings with EBRD, EIB, and Green Climate Fund, infrastructure projects high on the Government’s agenda

8th June 2026, Skopje - State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Andriana Matlioska, took part in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Annual Meeting and Business Forum, talking place in Riga, Latvia, in the period 5th June – 7th June.
This year’s Annual Meeting held under the theme "From Volatile to Versatile: Economies Innovating in a Changing World", convened government officials, financial and corporate executives, shareholders, partners and clients of the Bank, as well as business sector and civil society representatives.

During her stay in Riga, State Secretary Matlioska held a number of bilateral meetings with EBRD, EIB, and Green Climate Fund representatives, as well as with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and the Dutch Constituency at EBRD.

During the meeting with Elena Gordeeva, EBRD Director for Infrastructure in Europe, the country reaffirmed its strong commitment to advancing infrastructure development, highlighting the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as an indispensable partner in the delivery thereof.

To date, EBRD has invested in 213 projects in the country, with a total value of EUR 3.13 billion, while ongoing projects currently amount to EUR 1.3 billion.

Matlioska conveyed her appreciation for the support extended by EBRD to our country to date, underscoring the Government’s steadfast commitment to capital expenditure execution.
"Capital expenditures stand as a cornerstone of fiscal policy and a driving force of economic growth in the 2027–2031 period, designed to deliver long-term economic gains through scaled-up public investments notably in road and railway infrastructure, energy capacities, water supply and sewerage systems, digital infrastructure, as well as projects in the field of education and social protection," Matlioska affirmed during the meeting, where the Bank’s commitment to further partnership in advancing road, railway, and municipal infrastructure projects, was also highlighted.

During the meeting with Richard Amor, Director of Partnerships, EIB Global, the significance of the European Investment Bank’s support to the country was underscored, reflecting implementation of multiple projects totaling EUR 1.6 billion.

Matlioska expressed her gratitude for the European Investment Bank’s support to date in the areas of energy and railway infrastructure, municipal water supply infrastructure, while also extending her appreciation for EIB’s readiness to continue cooperation in fostering the private sector, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises, through the Development Bank.


The State Secretary also held a meeting with Thomas Eriksson, Director of the Department for the Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Middle East at Green Climate Fund.

At these meetings, Matlioska further underlined the Government’s unwavering commitment to advancing reform processes, including the reform agenda, acknowledging it as a cornerstone for economic development, institutional resilience, and the country’s successful integration into the European Union.
