17th December 2025, Skopje – Deputy Minister of Finance, Nikolche Jankulovski, participated at the Science Conference “Innovative Solutions for Reducing the Informal Economy and Social Inequality”, organized as part of a scientific and research project funded by the Ministry of Education and Science.
In his remarks, he underscored the crucial role fiscal policy, tax regulations, and institutional coordination play in eradicating informal economy and reinforcing social justice.
“Informal economy extends beyond unpaid taxes, since it is a major driver of social inequality, unfair competition, and eroded public trust in institutions. When most of the economic activities take place beyond formal channels, the fiscal and social burden does not disappear, but is instead shifted to those businesses and citizens who duly meet their legal obligation,” Deputy Minister said.
By highlighting that the informal economy most directly affects the most vulnerable citizens and undermines the principle of fairness, Jankulovski stated that curbing the grey economy in the Government’s Program is not an isolated measure, but rather a part of comprehensive and systemic approach, which integrates: stability of public finances, digital transformation of institutions, fair and predictable business environment, while also fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The conference provided an excellent opportunity for institutions, the academic community, and relevant stakeholders to exchange ideas, with the aim of creating sustainable and practical solutions based on analyses and evidence.
