11th May 2026, Skopje - As part of the continuous efforts to strengthen public finance management system and advance the professional capacities of the internal audit across the public sector, the Ministry of Finance successfully delivered workshops dedicated to “Audit Performance”.
The workshops were jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance and the IPA Project “Support to the Implementation of Public Finance Management Reform Program 2024 - 2027”, aimed at providing both strategic and hands-on support for advancing the internal audit as a key driver of sound financial governance and control.
Training sessions were designed to apply contemporary methodological approaches and practical tools for conducting performance audits, placing special focus on qualitative methods, including interviews, observation, process analysis, qualitative data analysis and textual analysis.
The participants were introduced to a range of interview types and practical techniques for their use in auditing, along with methods for systematic observation and analysis of institutional processes. Furthermore, the trainings showcased approaches for data processing and analyzing, identifying and documenting facts, and applying practical tools that enable more efficient and higher-quality performance of audit activities.
Special attention was paid to the sharing of practical experience, best practices and challenges the institutions face when conducting performance audits, with the goal of enhancing the quality, the transparency and the effectiveness of audit processes across the public sector.
An important contribution to the success of the workshops came from the expert Markus Erlmoser, who applied long-standing professional experience and specialized knowledge to deliver a high-level academic and professional approach to the topics addressed.
The respective workshops were organized in cooperation with the Public Finance Academy and the Department for Central Harmonization of the Public Sector Internal Financial Control System, departments within the Ministry of Finance.
