27th February 2026, Skopje - As part of the mission organized by the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) within the International Monetary Fund, in cooperation with the Public Finance Academy Department and the Fiscal Risk Working Group within the Ministry of Finance, working meetings on the topic of “Fiscal Risks” took place in the Ministry of Finance’s premises in the period 24th February - 27th February 2026.
The event was primarily intended for members of the Fiscal Risk Working Group, including representatives from relevant institutions directly involved in identifying, monitoring, and managing fiscal risks.
The purpose of the meetings was to promote the exchange of information and expert insights as regards fiscal risks arising from court proceedings against the state, as well as to take more effective institutional approach to their timely identification, assessment, and management.
The discussions focused on issues related to domestic and international court disputes, including disputes stemming from employment relationships, public investments, and other grounds that may entail substantial budget implications.
By engaging in active discussions and sharing international experience and practices, participants explored opportunities to enhance the systems for recording and reporting contingent liabilities, all to the end of increasing both transparency and predictability in public finances.
These meetings provided for strengthened institutional capacities as regards fiscal risk management, as well as improved coordination among the relevant authorities, marking an important step towards a more comprehensive and systematic approach to managing risks that could affect the public finance stability.
