25th February 2026, Skopje – Ministry of Finance continues to advance energy efficiency across municipalities by implementing substantial investments in modern and energy-efficient public lighting systems, with the support of the World Bank.
The Ministry maintains momentum in the successful implementation of the Public Sector Energy Efficiency Project, carried out with the financial support from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development – World Bank.
The Project, implemented through the PIU within the Ministry of Finance, constitutes a significant step toward modernizing public infrastructure and strengthening sustainable energy management in the country.
Within the “EE Investments in Municipal Sector” sub-component, which forms a part of this project totalling EUR 8.2 million, financial support is provided for the implementation of projects aimed at reconstruction of public facilities through energy‑efficiency measures, as well as modernization of municipal street lighting.
This cycle includes three successfully implemented sub‑projects for street lighting in the municipalities of Probishtip, Rankovce and Lozovo, a total investment of Denar 41,396,788 for replacement of existing lights with new, energy‑efficient LED lights.
Existing street lighting in the Municipality of Probishtip were replaced in full with new energy-efficient LED lights across the central urban area and 29 surrounding settlements. A total of Denar 23,032,497 was invested in this municipality, thus significantly improving the quality of public lighting.
Modern, energy‑efficient LED lights were installed in the Municipality of Rankovce, specifically in the settlements of Rankovce, Psacha, Petralica, Opila, Ljubinci, and Ginovci.
With an investment of Denar 9,392,799, the respective project contributed to increased energy efficiency and improved safety and quality of life for the residents of Rankovce.
Under the Project, Denar 8,971,492 was invested in the Municipality of Lozovo for the installation of new energy‑efficient LED lights across eight settlements, thereby completing the modernization of the municipality’s street lighting system and creating conditions for a substantial energy savings.
The implementation of the aforementioned projects represents a tangible contribution to modernization of local energy infrastructure, ensuring compliance with the legal requirements of the contemporary energy framework and reinforcing the foundations for sustainable development.
The upgrade of street lighting delivers significant energy savings, lowers municipal expenditures, and provides citizens with a safer and higher-quality public service.
