United States of America – USA represented by USAID has, so far,  invested  more than US$ 830  million in the development of the Republic of North Macedonia. US Government extends significant support to the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia in the implementation of activities aimed at economic growth and stability and strengthening democratic practices and institutions.

On 22^nd August 2018, Development Objective Grant Agreement was concluded with the USA, represented by the USAID, making available grant funds in the amount of USD 37.5 million. The Development Objective (“Objective”) under the respective Agreement is: “The Republic of Macedonia is a Prosperous, Self-Reliant, and Inclusive Democratic Society.”

In order to achieve the Objective, the USA and the Republic of North Macedonia work together to achieve the following results:

1. Increased Private Sector Growth, the results to be achieved include: (a) an improved and responsive business environment for increased competitiveness and access to finance; and (b) improved energy security and renewables.
2. Enhanced Participation by Informed Citizens, the results to be achieved include: (a) enhanced participation of citizens and strengthened Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that increasingly engages and constructively demands government accountability for its citizens; and (b) increased media independence and professionalism.
3. Good Governance Strengthened, the results to be achieved include: (a) strengthened effectiveness and accountability of assemblies, ministries, and election processes; and (b) improved capacity within the executive branch.
4. Improved Social Cohesion, the results to be achieved include: (a) improved inter-ethnic integration and (b) increased inclusion of socially marginalized groups.

On 6^th May 2021, Development Partnership Grant Agreement was concluded with the USA, represented by USAID, thus making available grant funds in the amount of US$ 8.3 million.

As part of the so-far cooperation under this Agreement as well, USAID remains committed to supporting the achievement of the strategic goal “USAID Partnerships Promote a Prosperous, Well-Governed, and Resilient North Macedonia Committed to Euro-Atlantic integration”. In order to achieve this objective, the USA and the Republic of North Macedonia work together on attaining  the following results: 1. Economic Competitiveness Improved, 2. Youth Contributions to Society Increased, and 3. Corruption Reduced.
