21st September 2023, Skopje – Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi met the US Ambassador to North Macedonia, Angela Aggeler. The point of discussion covered the ongoing political and economic developments in the country, as well as the efforts put for implementing the public finance management reforms, as well as the fight against corruption.
“Republic of North Macedonia is confronting a significant stage in terms of demonstrating its readiness on its road to full-fledged EU Membership. Negotiations with the EU are open and we should hereby use every opportunity to pave, step by step, the way therefor, as soon as possible, since the benefits from the EU membership are multiple for both the country and the citizens. In accomplishing our common goal, USA, as our long-standing partner has been providing us with substantial support, most of which pertains to the reforms we implement”, Minister Besimi pointed out.
He stressed that the Government and the Ministry of Finance put maximum efforts for ensuring fiscal sustainability, sound public finance and long-term growth, and that plenty of steps are being realized to that end.
At the same time, he expressed gratitude to the USA for the unreserved support it provided for our country’s development, thereby highlighting the support by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, whose experts are part of the MoF’ team, all to the end of enhancing the capacities of the Treasury Department.
We are continuously working on strengthening our own capacities, thus contributing to improved public finance management. Therefore, last year, the new Organic Budget Law was adopted as the most major public finance reform since the country gained independence, setting rules in line with the European Standards.
