28th November 2024, Skopje – Macedonia will continue to work very seriously in the coming period, in order to succeed in signing the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information, thus joining the OECD Global Forum members in the fight against tax evasion globally, Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, pointed out in her address at the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, taking place in Paraguay.
She said that OECD supports the process of implementation of the standards on automatic exchange of information, which, as an organization, also gives huge opportunities to the countries which are ready to share information in the sense of decreasing the tax evasion. Thereby, she also underlined that implementation of the adopted laws is crucial.
“The country is already provided technical support from the OECD and I believe that in the coming period what will be most important is for our tax authority to produce good and qualitative numbers, i.e. correct statements, considering that, at the moment, it uses eight different systems to receive the information, the Minister said, underlining that process digitalization is priority of the Government, underpinned with the establishment of the new Ministry of Digital Transformation.
The Minister pointed out that one of the issues related to the implementation of this process is closed, thereby referring to the banking sector, which is stable and sound. By closing the second issue, pertaining to activities related to the tax administration, it can be expected, in 2027 already, for our country to be on the list of countries implementing the standards on automatic exchange of information.
Standards on automatic exchange of information (AEOI) are essential tool for the jurisdictions, i.e. the countries, in the fight against tax evasion and in protecting the integrity of their tax systems. Global Forum role is crucial for capacity development to the end of supporting and enabling fast and effective implementation of the standards by all of its members, counting more than 170 jurisdictions.
