22nd October 2024, Skopje – Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, will take part in regular Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington, USA, between today and 26th October, having meetings with high representatives of both international financial institutions, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, as well as bilateral meetings with her peers.

 

Within the Annual Meetings, Minister of Finance, Dimitrieska-Kochoska, will meet with the Director of the European Department at IMF, Alfred Kammer, IMF Executive Director, Paul Hilbers, Alternate Executive Director, Luc Dresse, as well as Jeroen Clicq and Marnix van Rij, who are to stand in as the new IMF Executive Director and Alternate Executive Director, respectively. Annette Kyobe, IMF Mission Chief to Republic of North Macedonia, will also attend the meetings. Steps undertaken, aimed at stabilization of public finances, as well as fiscal consolidation plans and economic growth will be underscored at the meetings.

 

Discussions with the World Bank high officials will entail continuation of the long-standing cooperation and the support the country has been extended in recent years. Meetings have been scheduled with the Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the World Bank, Antonella Bassani, the World Bank Group Executive Director, Eugene Rhuggenaath, and the World Bank Country Director for the Wester Balkans, Xiaoqing Yu.

 

Meetings with Alfonso Garcia Mora, Regional Vice President for International Financial Corporation – IFC, and U.S. Department of Treasury representatives, are also foreseen, with the aim of confirming the support received by the Ministry of Finance for implementation of its envisaged programs, as well as the ones with representatives of financial institutions the country cooperates with in the process of Eurobonds’ issuance.

 

During her working stay in Washington, Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska will have a meet-up with the Macedonian diaspora in the USA, discussing their way of life and involvement in the American society, as well as the policies the new Government is implementing, aimed at strengthening ties with the emigrants.

 

During these regular meetings, at which alongside the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska, participates, topics of discussion will be world economic perspectives, global financial stability, boosting economic growth, climate changes’ effects, as well as economic challenges.

 

IMF/WB Annual Meetings are taking place each year, in October, opening the floor for a dialogue on current issues in global terms among ministers of finance, governors, representatives of the business community, civil sector, academia and the likes.
