Skopje, 16th November 2012 (MIA) – Investment possibilities in education in Macedonia were presented today to representatives of renown European and world’s universities at “Macedonia Education One World” Conference.
The goal is to present Macedonia as a leader in the region as regards higher education and to stimulate European and world’s universities to transfer pat of their educational process in the Republic of Macedonia.
According to Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, progress in education is a fundamental method for the overall social progress in the country, and Government’s vision is for Macedonia to become regional educational center to create highly-professional educational personnel.
– Out intention is for Macedonia to become regional educational center. Hence, our strategic commitment is to constantly invest in science and educational system and to support all investments in this field, to open new universities, to connect with foreign universities, to develop joint scientific and research projects, to develop joint programs on studying, to exchange students and professors, to award scholarship to our students studying at the most prestigious universities worldwide, as well as to attract large number of foreign universities to open institutions of higher education in Macedonia, Gruevski pointed out in his speech at the Conference.
Talking about all the activities undertaken in the field of education, Prime Minister Gruevski said that, in the past years, the Government invested 6% of GDP in education, announcing the continuation of such support in future as well, aimed at successful realization of all educational projects.
– We are aware that Macedonia does not have any large natural resources available and, hence, our only tool to compete with the large states in Europe and the world it exactly the knowledge as a public good. We are a small country, but with rich cultural and educational tradition. In fact, the first pan-Slavic university on the territory of Europe is exactly the “St. Clement” University in Ohrid, founded in distant 886, Gruevski underlined.
Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Zoran Stavreski, found today’s Conference to be a possibility for European and world’s universities to position Macedonia on their maps and the transfer part of their educational process in the country.
– Macedonia offers a lot as an investment destination. We are located in the middle, where all possible factors for realization of the educational process are present, and we are close to the European countries. We hope we will rouse interest of all present today and, in near future, we will be able to conclude that there will also be investments in the field of higher education by European and world’s universities, Vice Prime Minister Stavreski said.
For now, interest in investing in the education is shown by the Indian company CEL Pvt Ltd, which plan to build a campus near Veles to accommodate foreign schools.
– We have decided to invest in education in Macedonia, taking into account its central geographical position, excellent political will and favourable investment opportunities. Following a comprehensive 8-12-month analysis, we have decided that Macedonia is the best place to invest in education, CEO Amrish Chandra said.
According to him, participants showed is large interest in the project, however, few couple of months, when details of its realization are to be precisely determined, would be of crucial importance.
