28th December 2021, Skopje – At the traditional year-end meeting, Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, and former Ministers of Finance took an initiative for establishment of a Council as an expert body to be part of the SEFF Platform, which will deliberate on prevalent issues and topics requiring social consensus.
The initiative stems from the meeting between Minister Besimi and ex Finance Ministers as far back as the country’s independence. The meeting was attended by Dzevdet Hajredini, Taki Fiti, Nikola Popovski, Zoran Stavreski, Trajko Slaveski and Kiril Minoski, with other former MoFs not taking part due to objective reasons, however the intention is for they to be part of the Council as well.
The Council, comprising former Ministers of Finance, will be a body to operate as part of the Skopje Economic Finance Forum – SEFF, to actively work, throughout the year, on issues and topics of relevance for the country’s economic development. Its role is to provide solid basis to the Forum in making credible economic policies through an inclusive and transparent process. First and foremost, it will be an expert body, with its members’ experience and knowledge adding value to the policy making.
At the meeting, Minister Besimi and his former peers exchanged opinion on the economic prospects, the prevalent topics, as well as the challenges stemming from COVID-19 induced pandemic, energy crisis, price pressure on the global stock market, as well as the need for economic growth.
