14th December 2023, Skopje – Funds amounting to EUR 7.5 million the Ministry of Finance provided though the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU, are intended for implementing the rail joint border crossing Tabanovce. Agreement was signed by Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besim and EBRD representative for North Macedonia, Fatih Türkmenoğlu.

“We signed Loan Agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, geared towards implementing this major infrastructure project, all to the end of improving the quality of railway infrastructure in the country and strengthening the international cooperation and connectivity with neighboring Serbia, being actually our partner in the implementation of this Project”, Minister Beismi said upon signing the Agreement.

He underlined that these are only some of the efforts the Government and the Ministry of Finance put in providing funds in implementing development projects, which will contribute to attaining accelerated and sustainable growth, thus getting our country closer to the living standard of the EU citizens.

As per the signed Agreement, for the purpose of implementing this Project, EUR 5 million is provided by EBRD and EUR 2.5 million as grant from the WBIF.

“This is only part of the lengthy list of projects, for which we put maximum efforts in the past years, all to the end of providing funds for their implementation. They will contribute to sustainable growth and accelerated convergence towards the EU.

The funds amounting to EUR 7.5 million intended for realizing this Project, are only pat of the extensive package of over EUR 700 million in support of implementation of major infrastructure projects, for which the related laws were adopted by the Parliament this week. It is important to note that EUR 733 million are projected in next year’ Budget, intended for capital expenditures”, Minister Besimi pointed out.

He went on that in addition to these funds in support of development purposes, over EUR 250 million are also provided for coping with the crisis.
