18th April 2024, Skopje – Starting today until 20th April, Deputy Minister of Finance, Filip Nikolovski, will attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group to take place in Washington, dedicated to seeking solutions to tackle global challenges, including solutions to ramp up finance and knowledge, foster private sector investments and prepare for future crisis.
Apart from attending the Spring Meetings, Deputy Minister of Finance Nikolovski will also have meetings with high officials of both the World Bank and the IMF, to discuss macroeconomic policies and medium-term expectations, considering the upcoming reforms, EU integration progress, as well as the wider global context.
He will meet with World Bank Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the World Bank, Antonella Bassani, Executive Director, Eugene Rhuggenaath, and Country Director for Wester Balkans, Xiaoqing Yu, as well as IMF high officials, Deputy Managing Director, Bo Li, Executive Director, Paul Hilbers, Alternate Executive Director for North Macedonia, Luc Dresse, and Director of the European Department, Alfred Kammer.
North Macedonia and the policies this Government pursues are strongly supported under several programs implemented with these IFIs. Reforms are aligned with the IMF’s Precautionary and Liquidity Line, being basis for maintaining sound macroeconomic policies amid crisis. In addition, reform support is also envisaged under the new five-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank, which is being implemented since the beginning of this year. The goal is to support the set priorities in ensuring accelerated and sustainable economic growth, resilience to crises and better living standard.
IMF/WB Spring Meetings are held every year, taking place from 15th to 20th April this year. Ministers of Finance and Governors of Central Banks of the member states participated at the Spring Meetings, discussing the recent developments in the world economy, topics of relevance, such as poverty reduction and boosting economic growth.
