5th November 2024, Skopje – Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, had her address at the High-Level Police and Customs Cooperation Conference on Small Arms and Light Weapons and Migrant Smuggling in South East Europe today, organized by OSCE, conveying a message on systemic fight against crime and corruption.

“Top priority set in the 2024 – 2028 Government Program is the rule of law and the fight against corruption, crime and illicit trade. Our priority is to create a safe living environment for the citizens, safe environment for doing business and equality before the law. We are determined and strongly committed to meeting this priority, in particular through systemic fight against crime and corruption. Institutions are standing tall in the face of the challenge and I am confident that they will rise up to the task with their professional competences”, Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska said at the Conference opening ceremony.

In light of this context, she emphasized the crucial role the Customs Administration, as an institution falling under the competence of the Ministry of Finance, plays in fighting crime and eradicating illicit trade. She also underlined the positive performance of the Customs Administration regarding both collection of customs duties and detection of cases of illicit trade, as well as the importance of the institutions exchanging information.

The Conference is organized within the Project for Assisting the National Authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia to Decrease the Risk of Weapon Proliferation and Misuse of Small Arms and Light Weapons, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the fight against organized and international crime.
