6th March 2025, Skopje – Macedonia has joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). Companies will thus be able to more easily engage in cross-border trade in goods and services, and citizens will benefit from simpler, faster and cheaper money transfer services within SEPA countries, Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, posted on her Facebook profile following the positive decision by the European Payments Council.

“It affirms the efforts the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank and other institutions have invested in aligning the regulations for the country’s accession to SEPA – the single payment system for the companies and the citizens from the country and those in SEPA, in particular the EU. Companies are thus facilitated their engagement in cross-border trade in goods and services within SEPA, providing for expanding their businesses and boosting their competitiveness. The citizens will benefit from simpler, faster and cheaper money transfer services within SEPA countries”, the Minister pointed out.

She also stated that in order to accomplish this goal the Ministry of Finance amended the Law on Payment Services and Payment Systems and the Anti-Money Laundering Law for the purpose of their harmonization with the EU regulations.

“Both companies and citizens will be able to make transfers with 38 countries members of the EU and SEPA just as easy as at home. Results are visible and we remain committed to the set goal for building a modern state and a developed economy. Macedonia follows the global trends”, Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska stated.
