27th January 2021, Skopje – Support to the reforms for both strengthening the public finance management through projects aimed at improving the public debt management, and the financial statistics, were the topics discussed at the meeting between the Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, and the Ambassador of the Switzerland, H.E. Sybille Suter Tejada.
During the meeting, Minister of Finance presented the SMART Finance concept to the Ambassador, a concept aimed at strengthening the planning, as well as the monitoring the implementation of the undertaken measures and their effect on both the economy and the society. The Minister also talked about the reforms as regards and Budget and its execution, as well as the Integrated Financial Management Information System – IFMIS.
Amendments, with a Protocol, in line with the OECD rules, to the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation with respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital with Switzerland were also discussed, all to the end of strengthening the provisions in the existing Convention, fair tax treatment and enhanced tax transparency.
The Minister and the Ambassador talked about the so-far cooperation between the two countries in economic context, as well as the experience from coping with the consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Minister pointed out both the stabilization and the recovery expectations for our economy for this year. Undertaken anti-crisis measures and the one to be yet undertaken will contribute thereto, expecting for the crisis to weaken, investors’ confidence to restore and economic activity as a whole to accelerate.
Switzerland is our partner in the reform processes in the country in the area of transport, environment, economic development and democratic governance through a series of projects implemented and to be yet implemented in the country. Readiness to support new projects was expressed, which will contribute to improving the standard and the democratic governance.
