30th November 2021, Skopje – Ministry of Finance continues, together with the Public Revenue Office, to work on building more efficient and fair tax system via clearly defined rules and principles, thus contributing to improved public services, accelerated, inclusive and sustainable growth of our economy, and more satisfied taxpayers accordingly.
This was pointed by Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, at the celebration of the Tax Workers’ Day organized by the Public Revenue Office, which speaks in favor of the commitment of tax workers to the efficient public revenue collection, as well as the pursuit of public interest, which is exceptionally important for the country.
-Your successful work is reflected in the good performance of tax revenues, without which the uninterrupted performance of the functions of the state is no possible. Such collected funds are used for making investments in the field of construction of roads, bridges, schools, kindergartens, improved healthcare and social services, better education, Minister Besimi said.
Ministry of Finance has, together with the Public Revenue Office and the international development partners, taken significant step in ensuring fair, efficient, transparent and modern tax system based on contemporary digital technologies and innovations in taxation, all to the end of attaining an accelerated, inclusive and sustainable economic growth. 2021-2025 Tax System Reform Strategy was adopted, outlining five priorities for tax policy creators and the administrative authorities responsible for public revenue administration, together with their key activities, deliverables, responsible entities and key performance indicators. Afterwards, Action Plan on Eradication of Informal Economy was adopted, in line with which, intensive activities are being undertaken, aimed at realizing its activities, among which, the process digitalization as a crucial one, also comprising measures, which will contribute to raising the tax awareness and stimulating the economic entities to realize their activities within the formal economy.
Impact of these measures has been already evident via the increased tax revenues this year. According to the most recent data since the beginning of the year as of 29th November inclusive, tax revenues have been higher by 19.2% compared to the same period in 2020, while being higher by 6.7% compared to this period in 2019.
In addition, VAT refund has also yielded positive results. VAT is refunded on regular basis, being higher by 19.65% in the period January-November 2021 alone, compared to the same period in 2020, while being also higher by 19.87% when comparing the same period in 2019.
At the celebration of the Tax Workers’ Day, Minister of Finance was awarded a certificate of honor for the successful cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the Public Revenue Office.
