9th March 2022, Skopje – Deepening the economic cooperation with the United States of America, the economic consequences that could arise from Russia-Ukraine war, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects, as a key factor for our country’s development, were the points of discussion between Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi and the US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes. During the meeting, the Minister also indicated the Organic Budget Law, which adoption by the MPs, is of crucial significance.

“Government, as before, will act as responsibly as possible and in the best interest for protecting the national economy and the financial status of the citizens.” We are attentively monitoring the developments, thus creating scenarios to accord with the potential outcome therefrom”, Minister of Finance, Besimi said.

He thereby informed the Ambassador about the set of measures to be implemented in the next period in order to improve the living standard of the population, as well as boost the competitiveness of the national economy.

Minister Besimi expressed his gratitude to the US Government for its continuous and substantial support provided to our Government in implementing activities geared towards economic growth and stability, as well as strengthening the democratic practices of the institutions.

Ambassador Byrnes congratulated Besimi on his extended term of office, wishing him success in his duties, affirming the commitment for further support by the USA as a strategic partner. Ambassador said that rule of law and fight against corruption will be the key factors in improving the business climate and achieving the strategic goals for faster, sustainable and inclusive growth.

United States of America are one of the most important strategic partners to the Republic of North Macedonia. Excellent political relations between the two countries are to encourage and deepen the economic cooperation in near future.

At the same time, gratitude was also expressed about the support provided to Republic of North Macedonia, which as a NATO ally, joined the call for a cessation of the hostilities in Ukraine, thus providing opportunities to strengthen the future cooperation with the United States.
