10th April 2023, Skopje – As of today until 15th April 2023, Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi will pay a working visit to the USA, where he will meet top officials in the headquarters of the UN, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
During his visit, Minister will meet the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Amina Mohammed, and the Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and the new Director for the Regional Bureau for Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ivana Živković, where the points of discussion will pertain to the support the country receives from this significant international organization in accomplishing the development goals, sustainable development, green financing, as well as guidelines for dealing with the challenges arising from the energy and price crisis.
During his working visit, Minister of Finance, together with the Governor of the National Bank, Anita Angelovska-Bezhoska, will take part in the WB and IMF Spring Meetings, taking place in Washington.
These meetings, which bring together ministers, governors, representatives of the private sector, civil society organizations, experts, etc., provide an opportunity for a large number of formal and informal meetings between the participants.
Within the Spring Meetings, Minster of Finance, Fatmir Besimiu will meet Deputy Managing Director at the IMF, Bo Li, Director of the European Department at the International Monetary Fund, Alfred Kammer, IMF Executive Director, Paul Hilbers, as well as Alternate Executive Director, Luc Dresse. Minister will also have meetings in Washington with senior representatives of the World Bank, among which the new World Bank Regional Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Antonella Bassani and World Bank Group Executive Director Koen Davidse. Such meetings are a chance to review the policies and reforms the country pursues, for the purpose of attaining higher and sustainable growth rates, as well as the medium-term plans and the measures for managing the crisis.
Minister will also meet Brian McCauley, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia at U.S. Department of the Treasury, offering substantial technical assistance in strengthening public finance management, efficiency, transparency and accountability as regards public finances.
Spring Meetings, taking place in Washington, will put focus on the challenges the world confronts, the manner of responding to these challenges, while also promoting growth and prosperity for all.
