27th June 2024, Skopje – Today, within the State Audit Office premises, newly elected Minister of Finance, Gordana Dimitrieska- Kochoska met the General State Auditor, Maksim Acevski.
The challenges related to the public finance management, the need for greater transparency and accountability in managing the public funds, the significant role the State Audit Office plays in strengthening the institutional capacities, as well effectively controlling and safeguarding the public funds, were the topics of discussion at today’s work meeting.
General State Auditor welcomed the Minister’s initiative, expressing his readiness for further cooperation and support. At the same time, she stressed the importance of adopting the new Law on State Audit, which will result in strengthened financial and operational independence of the State Audit Office, while also providing the opportunity to act upon the audit-related recommendations and considering the audit reports by the Parliament.
“This activity is a response to the requirements by the European Union and the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI),” the General State Auditor Acevski pointed out.
“This meeting is only one of the many activities aimed at promoting the state audit role, which is of crucial importance for accomplishing the reform goals set in the financial sector”, Dimitrieska- Kochoska pointed out.
Both interlocutors expressed their openness and commitment to intensive cooperation, with the aim of sound and accountable public fund management, along with increased confidence of citizens in both the efficiency of the country and the manner of absorbing taxpayers’ funds.
