9th April 2025, Skopje – Yesterday, the Parliament adopted the Program on Supplementing the Medium-Term Program for Formation, Storage, Replenishment and Utilization of Commodity Reserves, proposed by Ministry of Finance.

The commodity reserves will contain 1300 tons of rice, i.e. 2400 tons of unprocessed rice, sufficient for a 60-day consumption, requiring approximately Denar 100 million.

The latest amendments and modifications to the Law on Commodity Reserves covers rice as a crop of vital importance for the country’s population, being suitable for storage as part of the commodity reserves.

Commodity reserves consist of products essential to the well-being of the population of the Republic of North Macedonia, intended for use during wars, state of emergency, natural disasters, environmental disasters, as well as major market disruptions.
Commodity reserves are comprised of wheat, maize, barley, unprocessed rice, cooking salt, crude sunflower oil, oil derivatives, pharmaceuticals and medical instruments.
