10th April 2025, Skopje – The Government will continue discussions with the USA administration on free trade, Minister of Finance stated for the media at the Delphi Economic Forum, with the economic section focusing on latest USA tariff decisions.
“It is crucial that Europe stands ready, it remains very much composed. We have representatives from the World Bank, the IMF and EBRD here, and I can witness them remaining unruffled. I believe things will get back to normal very soon. The difference between yesterday’s discussion about such high tariffs and the today’s one speaks of a whole new ballgame, something the US economy can withstand too. I do not expect any significant deterioration, in particular as regards the Macedonian economy. Economists participating in the Forum have concluded that this is the end of globalization. They stand unanimous in the opinion that the USA will be most severely affected, since the country is expected to face inflation and very low economic growth”, Dimitrieska-Kochoska said.
She announced her visit to Washington D.C. next week, where she is to attend the WB/IMF Spring Meetings, and use the opportunity to meet with US Treasury representatives
“Why not try and use the situation to our advantage?! Free trade discussions are still on the table and we will proceed in that line”, the Minister said.
According to her, US economy will be the one to bear the most consequences from the tariff decisions. “If the tariff decisions remain as they are, they threaten to trigger stagflation for the US economy, experiencing growth decline, even maybe a negative growth and inflation, and the spillover effect therefrom in Europe is expected later”, Minister of Finance highlighted.
