“Ongoing global health and economic crisis which has affected the whole world, including the Republic of North Macedonia and Spain, calls for active monitoring of the developments and timely response by the Governments. Negative impact of the pandemic in the first half of the year was much greater than expected, while the recovery is envisaged to be gradual. In order to mitigate the blow on the economy and the living standard of the citizens, we have adopted set of measures providing for companies’ liquidity by which, when the situation improves, they can resume their operations, be competitive and contribute to the economic growth”, Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, said at the meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, Emilio Lorenzo Serra.

Besimi expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for the support Spain has extended to our country in its process for becoming full member of the Alliance, as well as the support to opening the EU accession negotiations.

“We expect Spain to continue to be our strategic partner in the coming period, supporting the country until it becomes EU Member State”, Besimi pointed out.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, Serra, said that Bilateral Cooperation Agreement is given serious consideration, which will create conditions for strengthening the economic cooperation, adding that Spanish companies, being one of the global leading companies in construction of railway infrastructure, are interested in participating in public calls for construction of the railway connection towards Bulgaria – Corridor 8.

In cooperation with Spain, “Further Harmonization with EU in the field of Insurance and Increase of Market Operations” Project was successfully implemented within the Ministry of Finance, with the Spanish Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority as EU Member State partner, as well as was “Improving PRO Taxpayers Services” Project, with the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) as a partner.
