Skopje, 15th June 2012 (MIA) – Indian billionaire Subrata Roy will invest in Macedonia. The investment, as he says, is large, disclosing no details on the amount, and it can be in the field of export production or tourism-related.
He announced his intentions today, following the meeting with the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and the Government’s economic team, at which he was introduced the possibilities to invest in Macedonia, with on-the-field details to be presented in the coming days during the visits of several regions in the country.
– I plan to start up a business here. It could be export-oriented production or tourist-attracting business. It would not be a small investment. It would be something big, because I feel good here and we are a large company. What I have on my mind, would be something big, Indian billionaire Roy emphasized at the press-conference with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Zoran Stavreski.
He went on that at the moment he could not say anything about the amount of funds to be invested, however he underlined that they had not come to Macedonia for small things. – We are a large company. We started with US$ 40 in 1978, and now we are worth US$ 25 billion, Roy said, pointing out that he felt good in Macedonia, satisfied with the welcome reception and his impression for the Government representatives, who he had met in India too, was that they were honest.
He also announced investment in a statue of Mother Teresa, since, as he said, he would feel happy if he did something for Mother Teresa who, before she died, at a meeting he had with her, asked him whether he could take care of her poor children.
At the meeting, as Finance Minister Stavreski said, Roy expressed interest in many areas, such as agriculture, processing industry, tourism, construction, real estate, tourist zones, as well as mineral raw materials.
– Republic of Macedonia is hosting one more renown businessman, whose visit is yet another proof of that Government efforts to present Macedonia as a favourable business destination yield results, Minister said, adding that the objective of the visit is to leave a good impression as a country, as a Government, as institutions.
Emphasizing that investing is a process of getting familiar with all potentials, possibilities and details about Macedonia, as well as meeting the people in the country and getting to know the quality of the institutions and their representatives, Stavreski said that the goal of the Government is to leave a good impression as a country, good impression as regards the quality of the institutions, the manner the Government welcomes the investors and has discussions with them, so as for they to feel that they are in a country that meets all international standards for starting-up a business.
