30th January 2021, Skopje – Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, had a meeting with the US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes, who was accompanied by the USAID Country Representative, Eric Janowsky.
Ministry of Finance presented the reform agenda based on economic recovery, the Public Financial Management Reform Program – PFM, liberalization and development of the financial market and fight against informal economy. Smarter Growth Strategy was presented at the meeting, as well as its pillars, i.e. recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, accelerated, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, strengthening competitiveness of the private sector and investments in human capital.
The Minister pointed out the prepared unique and comprehensive plan on capital investments, which are of strategic importance in the medium term, as well as the undertaken measures aimed at improving their realizations. He also underlined the commitment to fiscal consolidation in the medium term, i.e. gradual reduction of the gap between the revenue and the expenditure side of the Budget, all to the end of maintaining stability of public finances.
During the meeting, they both exchanged opinions on improvement of the economic competitiveness of the country by increasing productivity and integration in the Euro-Atlantic and the regional markets, inclusion of the youth in the society and reduced corruption, as well as the partnership agreement between our country and the USA.
