Krugman will have a 30-minute key note address at this year’s Conference under the auspices of the Skopje Economic Finance Forum (SEFF), a platform for economic and financial dialogue, launched last year at the initiative of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Krugman received the 2008 Nobel Prize for his research redefining the existing theory of international trade and economic geography and reorienting the further research on these issues. By having shown the effects of economies of scale on trade patterns and on the location of economic activity, he introduced a new model of international trade.

In addition to redefining existing theories of international trade, Krugman is also renowned for founding or co-founding several new disciplines in international economics, from New Trade Theory (NTT) and New Economic Geography (NEG) to models of financial crises and exchange rate movements.

Throughout his career, Krugman has taught on the faculties of Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton, Stanford, and the London School of Economics. Since 2015, at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), he has served as both Distinguished Professor of Economics and Distinguished Scholar in the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality. He has been a prolific and diverse author, with a long list of publications ranging from best-sellers on economics and politics for a general audience to textbooks and academic papers on macroeconomics, exchange rate theory, international development, international trade, and economic geography. He is the author or editor of 27 books and over 200 academic papers in professional journals. Krugman is also a popular Op-Ed columnist for The New York Times.

Second SEFF Conference will take place at Aleksandar Palace Hotel in Skopje on 30th – 31st May 2022. Conference’s key theme “Sustaining Growth in Times of Uncertainty and Beyond” comprises four pillars:

  • Macro-economic challenges in turbulent times,

  • Energy, green transition and infrastructure,
  • Beyond crisis: Drivers for sustaining growth.

In addition to Krugman, among the participants attending are many renowned economists, high representatives of international financial institutions, Ministers of Finance, Governors, … who will present their views and debate on one of the eight panel discussions at #SEFF2022.
