1st February 2022, Skopje – Strengthening the economic cooperation, fresh foreign investments in the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, intensifying the construction of both the road and the rail corridor between the two countries which will provide for enhancing the prospects for attracting investments, these were the conclusions reached at the meeting between the government representatives and the Chambers of Commerce of North Macedonia and Bulgaria. The meeting was held within the first meeting of the newly established Working Group on Economy, Trade and Innovations with the Republic of Bulgaria, organized by the Ministry of Finance.

Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, and Minister of Innovations and Growth, Daniel Lorer, co-chaired the meeting. Deputy Prime Minister, Fatmir Bytyqi, also addressed the meeting.

Inclusion of Chambers of Commerce plays an important role in the process of enhancing the economic ties between the two countries. Activities will be undertaken aimed at improving the business climate through specific cooperation programs, all to the end of scaling up investments, with the business community’s ideas and proposals adding value to the already set priority areas and programs, as well as those proposed by the Chambers of Commerce themselves, Besimi pointed out.

Minister Lorer underlined that activities will be undertaken geared towards improving the business climate, as well as scaling up investments in innovative companies and other financial instruments. He also added that the idea behind holding such meeting is to learn about the investment prospects directly from the business community.

Chambers of Commerce’ representatives clearly showed interest in enhancing the economic cooperation and boosting investments from the countries they represent in the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria.

Executive Director of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, Antoni Pesev, President of the Macedonian Chambers of Commerce, Trajan Angelovski, President of the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Macedonia, Nebi Hodza, President of AmCham North Macedonia, Dragan Davitkov, Delegate of the German Chamber of Commerce in Macedonia, Patrick Martens, President of MATIS, Aneta Antova Pesheva, and President of the Macedonian-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, Kiril Lazarov, were the Macedonian representatives attending the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from AmCham Bulgaria, Bulgaria Association of Innovations, Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies, Bulgarian Industrial Association, Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce, Bulgarian-Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Bulgarian-Macedonian Business Club and French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce.
