20th October 2019, Washington – Domestic companies will be connected with the foreign investors in the region through a regional electronic platform. Western Balkan Manufacturing Value Chains Project for which Ministry of Finance signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the International Financial Corporation (IFC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland (SECO), will be launched as of next month. This Project was one of the topics at the meeting between Minister of Finance Nina Angelovska and the IFC Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Wiebke Schloemer during the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which will be held in Washington.
The regional Project, which apart from being realized in our country, also envisages development of regional electronic platform for connecting suppliers and buyers in Serbia and Kosovo, as well as a possibility for movement of the labour force from one to another country in the region. In addition, under the Project, a study will be prepared about what types of professions are necessary in the private sector, also providing for improvement of the business environment in the field of trade, cross-border cooperation and taxes.
Discussions during the meeting were also related to the IFC engagement to make a preliminary analysis, i.e. cost-effectiveness of HPP Chebren. Upon the preliminary analysis in case it shows cost-effectiveness, preparation of the tender documentation will follow afterwards.
IFC representatives also expressed readiness to provide support for projects in the private sector, tourism and renewable energy sources.
