Macedonia gets the green light from the European Commission (EC) to independently manage IPA funds for Component 3 on Regional Development. It is an amount of EUR 40.5 million for the period 2007-2009, while the Government will co-finance the project implementation with EUR 38 million in the period up to 2012. Total amount of funds allocated for this program is EUR 78.5 million.
 
The funds are envisaged for financing the completion of Corridors 8 and 10 and environment promotion projects. Part of the funds will be used for construction of Demir Kapija-Smokvica section, as well as for Prilep waste water treatment station.
 
It is soon expected for the Commission to confer management powers for independent management of IPA funds for Component 1, which covers Transition Assistance and Institution Building, as well as Component 4 – Human Resources Development. In September, audit mission is expected, after which conferral of management powers for Component 5 – Rural Development is expected.
